Industrial Placement Application to Investment Banks

For a start filing in those online applications take ages and whats worse is when you are offered to take the numerical reasoning test and you fail it you are rejected straight away! Then you think "man that was a waste of time". But you just have to remember to keep going. Churchill said "if it feels like your going through hell then keep going".

I have to undertake a year in industry as part of my course. I want a career in an IB (investment banking) - mostly because of the money! ;)

I've applied to about 10 banks and i am still waiting for their response. I've done all the numerical reasoning tests and i have only failed one of the which is quite good i think. For those interested, i failed the Barclays Capital test - they seemed hard for some reason?!

Will keep you updated on my pursuit of working for an IB!

Hi Jason,

Your Question was:

IB's you applied to which have 1 year Industrial Placement Programs?

I deleted your comment since it showed your email...I thought you might want to be hidden.

Well the following IBs offer Industrial Placements and i've applied to all of them, no replies so far from them!!!:

Goldman Sachs
Morgan Stanley
Credit Suisse
Citi (Citigroup)

The above are big players and are very hard to get in.

thanks for your quick reply.

which country are you applying in?

also, which department? GS only have opts and tech from my research.

which uni are you in?

I am based in the UK. So I am only applying for UK positions.

I am applying for the TECH division for a year long placement since its part of my course. But I am going for a front office role in the future.

Are you interested in other divisons? What country you based in?

hey, i am in the uk as well.

studying inter. business and man. at aston.

where about are you?

i am interested in front office as well. but due to the credit crunch i "heard" they are taking less interns in. thats just word of mouth so dont believe it.

i'm looking for a Ibank, asset mangement or private wealth management role. they hardly exsist

I am at Imperial studying Computing.

Your right, its very hard to find things like asset mangement or private wealth management roles. I have only seen banks offering summer internships in these areas.

You could be right, less intern positions because of the credit crunch. I hope this doesnt have much of an impact on us getting those positions we want!

I failed Barclays Capital's numerical test as well.It appeared to be very easy,I remembered the 1st quiz was Index re-calculation.I practiced 3 online tests from Efinancial Careers.Average results was 20/24,but the actucal tests were much harder than that.Made me over-confidence.
Hope you have a nice new year.I am from Cass Business School.

I know - i found it hard and failed it rightly so.

But we all know that different banks have different standards for Numerical Reasoning - i Would of thought that Barclays would be one and that they would let me in! My performance was too poor though.

I failed Barclays too. I passed Merrill's.

I submitted one question without clicking the answer that I knew was right... I'll always wonder what could have been :(.

lol :) - dont bother yourself about it. Plus you passed Merrill's one, in terms of reputation, Merrill Lynch is far ahead of Barclays!
